How Our Premarital Counseling Works

If love was enough, all couples would stay together. It takes skills, tools, insights, and planning to have a lifelong, happy relationship. Some couples come into these things naturally, while others find out the hard way that they didn’t.

Our Premarital Counseling program, presented in a unique couple-to-couple format, proactively equips couples to go the distance, and to enjoy their life together along the way. See below for more details.

What you’ll gain

Understanding

  • Deeper Connection: Get to know each other on a deeper level, identifying strengths and growth opportunities for your relationship through workbook exercises, session discussions, and the Prepare/Enrich or SYMBIS Assessment.

  • Values Alignment: Uncover and understand differences in values, as well as differing assumptions and expectations for married life. With this insight, you can work on finding compromises and making plans now to overcome these differences, avoiding future conflicts and unpleasant surprises in your relationship.

  • Empathy and Compassion: Achieve new levels of empathy and compassion for one another through a deeper understanding of each other’s background, values, expectations, and views.

Skills

  • Communication & Conflict Resolution: Learn critical skills that will take your communication to the next level, and tools for both minimizing and mitigating conflict.

  • Intimacy Enhancement: Expand your understanding and awareness of your similarities and differences relative to both intimacy and sex.

Plans

  • Parenting: Plan if, when, and how you will become parents, as well as develop plans for tackling the job of parenting.

  • Roles: Define roles and responsibilities in a fair and balanced way that works best for your specific relationship.

  • Financial Planning: Strategize your approach to finances as a couple, near- and far-term.

  • Relationship Goals: Learn techniques to keep your relationship strong through the decades.

Space

  • Neutral Environment: Enjoy a judgment-free, neutral space to engage in honest and open dialogue about the tough topics, as well as your hopes for the relationship, any fears you may have, and expectations for your future together.

Other Benefits for Premarital Clients

  • State-Approved Curriculum: Our program is approved by the State of Texas “Twogether in Texas” program.

  • Marriage License Discount: Upon completing the eight-hour program, receive a Certificate of Completion, entitling you to a $60 discount on your Texas marriage license and waiving the 72-hour waiting period.

What you’ll do

  • Depending on where you are in your relationship journey, you and your partner will take either the Prepare/Enrich or SYMBIS Assessment, both of which are excellent tools for gaining new insights into your relationship.

  • Individually, you will each use our workbook chapters to answer a variety of questions exploring your family backgrounds, beliefs, values, and views on intimacy, spirituality, parenting, finances, and more.

  • You will then privately share your answers as a couple, identifying areas of concern or disconnects that are specific to you.

  • During our sessions together, we’ll discuss what you discovered, as well as explore results from the assessment. We will use our unique couple-to-couple format to explore solutions to any disconnects, learn more through discussion and exercises, and unlock new perspectives and possibilities.

  • Each session will immediately equip you and your partner with new skills and understanding to elevate your relationship to new heights.
