The Two Comfort Zones
Comfort Zone Type A: You feel comfortable with the status quo, so you resist change. This can lead to stagnation in your life, career, relationships, and more. This comfort zone can also be called a rut.
Comfort Zone Type B: You know your own risk tolerance and core values, and want to align your life and decisions to them. You’re not afraid to take some risks, but they must align to this comfort zone, and with your authentic self.
This is a topic that equally affects our individual clients and Premarital Counseling clients. When faced with Comfort Zone Type A, you must break the resistance in order to pursue a better version of yourself. It’s only when you push out of that comfort zone that you experience growth and change.
When faced with Comfort Zone Type B, recognize when you have made a carefully thought-out and conscious decision that aligns with that comfort zone, and defend it. Remember, that nobody is a better expert at being you than you. Be assertive and push back when friends or family try to move you from your comfort zone to theirs. Trust yourself and trust the process.
